Call Forwarding
Route calls to any phone, any device, anywhere. Stay reachable without being tied to your desk.
What Is Call Forwarding?
Call forwarding lets you redirect incoming calls to another number, extension, or device. Whether you're away from your desk, out of the office, or simply want calls routed to your mobile phone — call forwarding ensures you never miss an important call.
On-VoIP includes call forwarding with every plan, giving both residential and business users full control over where their calls go.
Types of Call Forwarding
On-VoIP supports multiple forwarding modes:
- Unconditional (Always): All calls are immediately forwarded to the destination number — your phone never rings
- Busy Forward: Calls forward only when your line is busy or in use
- No-Answer Forward: Calls forward after a set number of rings with no answer
- Time-Based: Forward calls during specific hours (e.g., after business hours to an answering service or mobile phone)
- Selective: Forward calls from specific caller IDs to a different destination
How to Set Up Call Forwarding
Setting up forwarding with On-VoIP takes just a few steps:
- Log in to the customer portal
- Navigate to Call Forwarding settings for your extension or number
- Choose the forwarding type (always, busy, no-answer, time-based)
- Enter the destination number (another extension, mobile number, or external line)
- Save your settings — changes take effect immediately
You can also configure forwarding via star codes directly from your phone. Dial *72 followed by the destination number to enable forwarding, and *73 to disable it.
Call Forwarding for Remote & Hybrid Teams
Call forwarding is essential for modern distributed teams. Forward your office extension to a softphone app on your laptop or mobile device so you can take business calls from home, a coffee shop, or on the road.
Combined with On-VoIP's auto attendant and ring groups, call forwarding creates a seamless experience for callers regardless of where your team members are located.
Find Me / Follow Me
"Find Me / Follow Me" is an advanced forwarding feature that rings multiple numbers in sequence. For example:
- First, ring your desk phone for 15 seconds
- If no answer, ring your mobile phone for 15 seconds
- If still no answer, ring your home office phone
- Finally, send to voicemail
This ensures callers reach you wherever you are without needing to manually update forwarding rules each day. It's included with On-VoIP Business plans.
